About Vanessa, Hornchurch, Romford

Hi and thanks for taking time to click here.

My name is Vanessa and I have been serving my community in Romford, Havering, in Essex, since  2017. this means that, including my training years where experience in the field was compulsory, I have 11 years experience offering counselling services.

Please note that the words counselling, psychotherapy and therapy are generally used for my profession. This is different from other mental health jobs where this is not possible eg psychiatrist, psychologist, which, like veterinary surgeons, are regulated and medically trained professionals.

I am a fully professionally trained and qualified psychotherapist/counsellor trained in Psychodynamic Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In recent years, I have developed an interest in Existential Counselling. This means that I typically don’t offer stand-alone CBT support in my practice, although I was trained on a limited number of protocol-oriented CBT courses. Now, I may integrate CBT elements when beneficial. If you are looking for CBT clinicians, a good and respectable directory is CBT Therapist . You can filter your search based on your needs.

I work only with adult age clientele.

This is my second career, and I have a passion for it. Previously I worked in both the Digital and Shipping industries with extensive experience in multinational organisations and start-ups, where I held numerous positions.

Then, I joined The Samaritans, and from there, my curiosity and willingness to help others brought me to study as a counsellor. My experience as a client receiving psychotherapy has been equally significant.

In addition to my work in private practice, I have experience as a Bereavement Counsellor and University Student Counsellor in the charity and public sectors.

In my calm office, I provide a place that is confidential, warm, non-judgemental and open to exploring any aspects of your life that are important to you.

I value diversity, and I am anti-discrimination in all its forms:

  • LGBTIQA+Ally
  • Sex-positive
  • Kink and BDSM friendly
  • Neurodivergent-affirmative
  • Pro-self-advocacy (knowing yourself, knowing your needs, and knowing how to get what you need)
  • Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity (GSRD)-affirmative
  • Anti-racist.

Having said this, I know the importance of continuous learning and identifying my blind spots.
